Environmental consciousness

October 10th, 2010

Being aware of our impact on the environment is an important and current ecological issue.  It has never been so easy to understand how small changes to our everyday lives can have a huge effect on the world we live in.

The print industry has seen an increased interest in using sustainable resources and environmentally friendly processes.  Since 1993, a non profit making organisation called the Forestry Stewardship Council has worked to increase awareness in responsible forestry management worldwide.  The independant certification granted by the FSC to printers encourages consumers to choose products manufactured using sustainable stocks that are responsibly managed, using processes that reduce our impact on the planet.

Clone Media are pleased to offer the option of recyced or FSC stocks.  We can print packaging and collateral using processes which are kinder to the environment.  Speak to the sales team today for information on how we can reduce the environmental impact of your next project.

Duplication versus replication

September 28th, 2010

We are often asked for the difference between these seemingly similar processes.  So below is a brief description highlighting the difference between each one, and what it is best used for.

When we talk about CD/DVD Duplication we refer to the process of burning data onto a pre-manufactured CD or DVD using a laser drive. This is the same process as you would use to burn a CD or DVD in your laptop or PC at home. We will then print directly onto the face of the discs using the latest full colour digital or screen print techniques, in order to give your disc the perfect finish. Duplication is the cheapest way to produce lower quantities of units, and these can be turned around in a few days from approval of artwork. We even have a fast track 24hour service for urgent deadlines. The media we use is the best on the market, and we can often send you a printed proof for approval should you require it.

The Replication method is more cost effective on larger quantities. In this production process we create a glass master from your master disc. We then use this to create a stamper. The Stamper is loaded onto a replication line where disc copies are replicated by pressing the stamper into liquid polycarbonate which is injection molded to the shape of the CD/DVD. Once the discs are pressed, metalised, lacqured and UV cured, they will be either Screen or Litho printed with your design. We can typically replicate quantities of 500 units upwards.
