You know that feeling when you get a branded t-shirt you actually want to wear? Not the one that ends up as a painting shirt, but the one that becomes part of your regular wardrobe? That’s what we’re talking about today.

What People Actually Want

The British Promotional Merchandise Association surveyed 200 consumers aged 16-30 about their t-shirt preferences. The results give us valuable insights into what makes branded clothing work.

When it comes to purchasing decisions, comfort leads the way at 29%, with price following closely at 27%. Fabric quality matters too – 18% of consumers look for well-made products that will last.

The classic crew neck remains the most popular style, chosen by 31% of respondents. Polo shirts come second at 21%, while V-necks appeal to 16%. Sometimes, keeping it simple is the answer.

The Growing Demand for Sustainable Options

Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in branded clothing.

When asked about 100% organic cotton:

  • 24% said it’s very important
  • 46% said it would be nice but not essential

That means 70% of consumers value sustainable materials to some degree. For brands looking to make a positive impression, eco-friendly options are worth considering.

Designs That Connect

The research shows clear preferences for certain types of branding:

  • University and college branding tops the list at 28%
  • Holiday destinations attract 25% of people
  • Car brands appeal to 22%

These preferences suggest people want to wear brands that reflect their interests, experiences, and values. It’s about creating that emotional connection.

Creating Branded Clothing That Works

One of the most interesting findings was when offered a free branded t-shirt or 5% off their next event ticket, 64% chose the t-shirt. That’s a powerful reminder of how valued quality, branded clothing can be.
